Reno, NV 89502 (775) 453-1921 Order Uniforms School Uniform & Dress Code This is a brief overview of Encompass Academy’s uniform expectations and is not the full dress code. Please refer to the Student Handbook for complete details. Encompass Academy maintains a strong uniform policy to promote unity, professionalism, and a focused learning environment. Students are expected to arrive at school in uniform every day. Uniform Tops Students must wear a collared polo shirt with the Encompass Academy logo while on campus. Older Encompass Academy logo polos are still acceptable. Shirts worn underneath uniform polos must be plain black, white, gray, or purple. Spirit shirts and other non-uniform Encompass apparel may only be worn on designated Spirit Days. Outerwear Students may wear Encompass Academy sweatshirts or jackets with the school logo. Plain outerwear in black, white, gray, or purple is permitted. Outerwear may be a single solid color or a combination of these approved colors (color-blocked), but must be free of logos, graphics, and designs. Boys & Girls Club sweatshirts are permitted. Outerwear does not replace the required Encompass Academy polo. Uniform Bottoms Students may wear: Black, khaki, or gray pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts Solid black athletic pants or sweatpants Solid black leggings Solid black denim/jeans All bottoms must be properly sized, free of holes or tears, and appropriate for school. Athletic shorts are not permitted. Shorts, skirts, and skorts must be an appropriate length and no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. Footwear & Accessories Closed-toe shoes with hard soles are required. Socks and tights should be black, white, gray, or purple. Open-toed shoes and slippers are not permitted. Chains or other accessories that create a safety concern are not permitted. Students Who Arrive Out of Uniform Students who arrive at school out of uniform may be asked to change into a school-provided loaner uniform or have appropriate uniform clothing brought to school by a parent/guardian. Families who are waiting for a uniform order or need assistance obtaining uniforms should contact the school. Loaner uniform shirts may be available. Repeated uniform violations may result in additional disciplinary action. PE & Athletics Students should arrive at school in uniform and change into athletic clothing for PE as directed. Students participating in after-school athletics should bring appropriate athletic clothing to change into after school. On approved game days, eligible student-athletes may wear their team jersey or approved spirit pack with uniform bottoms. This summary does not include every uniform expectation or exception. Prom at Encompass Academy Prom is one of Encompass Academy’s favorite annual traditions and gives students the opportunity to celebrate the school year with an elegant evening of music, dancing, and memories with friends. All students in good standing are invited to attend. Prom 2026 was held at the Whitney Peak Hotel with a “Starry Night” theme, creating a fun and memorable experience for students. Details about Prom 2027 will be announced during the next school year.

At-Risk Population This year, we have brought several new components to our support of our high at-risk population. Our curriculum has adopted a four component approach, focusing on a student's academic, social/emotional, personalized, and enrichment needs. We have incorporated this approach into our schedule. We have gone to a 1:1 device model whereby every student is given and iPad, and a Wireless Hotspot if needed. We use restorative practices, and have had three staff members trained to support the school. Students meet weekly in restorative circles as a proactive support. We have an on-site school counselor and school social worker. We have forged a relationship with TMCC to offer dual credit classes. These classes support students to be ready for college. We have been working with the Academy for Urban School Leadership on a plan for our Portrait of a Graduate. Time is built into the flexible school schedule for support beyond academics. We build capacity through our relationships with the Children's Cabinet, Paws for Love, Reno Art Works, Reno Bike Project, Sierra Arts, Kidrocker, Redirect Athletics, Urban Lotus, Nevada Coalition to End Domestic Violence, Equus Insight, Great Basin Institute, and Boys and Girls Club. We have forged an important relationship with the Boys and Girls Club, enabling students to participate in a healthy atmosphere from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. It also enables us to provide three meals to all of our students free of charge. We provide 25 meals weekly with the support of the Boys and Girls Club. We require students to wear uniforms, and provide two shirts annually to students free of cost. We have offered three additional hours per day for students who are credit deficient. All students meet annually for the development of an individualized learning plan. This meeting highlights student performance and goals. We partner with the Washoe County School District on extreme cases of truancy. In the 2019-20 school year, it was a goal to continue with a "take no prisoners" attitude with regard to credit earning. As such, students who wished to attend Encompass who were significantly credit deficient would be required to participate in an elongated school day in order to be a student in our program. The additional classes will be focused on credit recovery, health and well-being. We had a 0 period that runs from 7-8 a.m. and after school programming that runs from 2:15-4:15 p.m. This program was put on hold for the 2020-21 school year in light of Covid-19 and a lack of appropriate funds. However, Encompass did appeal to go on a quarterly system to make sure that students could earn a total of 8 credits throughout the school year just by attending with their cohort. Additionally, the school highlighted the need for a balance in education with our families and strategically determined that students would be required to take only two core classes at a time. The quarterly system allows students to focus on four classes each quarter, two electives and two core classes.

Gardening Club The Gardening Club gives students hands-on opportunities to learn about gardening, sustainability, nutrition, and environmental stewardship while working together to grow and care for plants. Students explore topics such as planting, harvesting, composting, and healthy food systems through interactive projects and outdoor learning experiences. The club places a strong focus on nutrition, healthy eating, and the importance of using fresh ingredients, including incorporating produce grown in the school garden into Encompass Academy’s culinary program. Encompass Academy closely collaborates with FARMily and Katie’s Community Garden to provide students with meaningful experiences connected to community gardening, regenerative agriculture, and social-emotional learning. Gardening Club students regularly visit Katie’s Community Garden, where they participate in hands-on activities such as planting, watering, harvesting, weeding, composting, preparing garden beds, caring for plants, and learning about sustainable gardening practices. These experiences help students develop teamwork, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of where fresh food comes from. During the club’s weekly lunch meetings, students also participate in engaging nutrition and gardening-related activities on campus. Recent activities have included making herbal teas, creating herb-infused oils for bread dipping, tasting fresh herbs and produce, participating in herb identification games, and learning how different plants can be used in cooking and wellness. These activities encourage students to explore healthy foods in fun, interactive, and hands-on ways. Gardening Club's Plans for the Future We are currently pursuing additional grant opportunities to expand the Gardening Club and provide even more hands-on learning experiences for students. Encompass Academy is applying for funding to add indoor hydroponic growing systems at our school site located within the Boys & Girls Clubs of Truckee Meadows, allowing students to grow plants year-round while learning about sustainable agriculture and nutrition. We are also seeking composting supplies to help launch a schoolwide composting program in partnership with BGCTM.
