  • About Encompass | Encompass Academy

Encompass Academy Guiding students to bright futures by focusing on academic achievement, personal pathways, enrichment, and social-emotional learning. About Encompass Academy Encompass Academy, established in 2003, is a non-profit, free, personal choice high school offering an alternative to traditional schools for students in the Reno/Sparks area. Guided by its mission—"Guiding students to bright futures by focusing on academic achievement, personal pathways, enrichment, and social-emotional learning"—the academy is dedicated to fostering the growth and success of its diverse student body. Formerly known as Rainshadow, the school underwent a significant turnaround process nine years ago, which included a relocation and rebranding. This transformation marked a renewed commitment to providing a holistic education tailored to the needs of students seeking a different approach to learning. The relocation to the Boys and Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows (BGCTM) Pennington facility allowed Encompass Academy to create a unique partnership that enhanced the services and opportunities available to students. This collaboration provides free membership to the Boys and Girls Club, access to a state-of-the-art facility, and three free meals daily. By integrating these wraparound services, the school has been able to remove barriers to education, focus more intensely on academics, and foster the overall well-being of its students. The partnership has also enabled the academy to redirect financial resources toward improving instructional quality and supporting student success. A cornerstone of Encompass Academy’s philosophy is its focus on the whole student. This approach is embodied in the Encompass Learning PASE, which emphasizes academic achievement, personal pathways, social-emotional development, and enrichment opportunities. These pillars empower students to connect with themselves, their community, and the world around them. The academy also fosters the development of key traits encapsulated in the acronym FIRE—fearlessness, integrity, resourcefulness, and endurance—which guide students toward success both in school and beyond. Through innovative programming and a commitment to inclusivity, Encompass Academy has become a place of opportunity for students who have struggled in traditional educational settings. Restorative practices, enrichment programs, and hybrid learning models create a supportive environment where students can thrive. Strong relationships between students, staff, and community partners further strengthen the academy’s ability to remove barriers to education and improve life outcomes. Today, Encompass Academy remains steadfast in its mission. By combining academic rigor, social-emotional learning, and community collaboration, the school continues to prepare students for bright futures, building on its legacy of empowering students to achieve their goals.
